WDS in Action in MIC Singapore

We have recently worked hard at upgrading our MIC’s deployment infrastructure. MIC Singapore operates a lab where we use them to train IT Pros and Developers on the upcoming technologies that are not even released. :-)

Yes, NOT EVEN RELEASED! Its cool stuff. This isn’t your regular computer lab, its a lab where cutting edge technologies are being shown off.

Anyways, as the only IT Pro Evangelist in the team. I had to make sure we’re using the latest and greatest technologies. Hey, walk the talk. If its shitty, we’ll slap ourselves and improve. If its good and awesome, we share.

In this lab, we have 17 machines. Using Windows Deployment Services, we were able to reduce deployment time to about 40 mins. 40 Mins to deploy 17 machines. That is quite a short time.

The images hasn’t been fully optimized, which means, we can have the opportunity to reduce it even further. I just want to share this proud moment using pictures.

This is Eugene. The MIC Specialist. Prior to using WDS on Windows 2008, he had to stay back really late to deploy the images for training. He is happy we had WDS on Windows 2008.

Here’s a shot of a computer screen. We’re loading up Windows Vista with SP1 Enterprise. Delivered over a Gigabit Network.

Recently, in a Community Technology Update 2008 event, Jay Paloma talked about Deploying Windows Vista and Office 2007 using deployment technologies from Microsoft. You can download his presentation slides here.

I have also scouted for a list of Labs that you can do anywhere in the comfort of your office desk or home. Here’s the list.
